The mountain gorillas (Gorilla Gorilla Berengie), the world's most endangered ape, is found only in small portions of protected afro montane forests in northwest Rwanda, southwest Uganda and eastern DRC. The mountain gorilla is one of many species unique to these forests. The forests are also home to many wonderful birds, primates, large mammals, reptiles, insects and plants and also ensure continued water and medical plant resources for the local communities.
DAY 1: KIGALI
Met on arrival and at Kigali Airport by our representative and transfer to your hotel for dinner & overnight.
DAY 2: GORILLA TRACKING - KINIGI
Room-service breakfast at the hotel.
0600 hours: Drive to Ruhengeri Prefecture, 100 km to the north for the “Park National des Volcans”.
0745 hours: register at the ORTPN offices where you will be met by your rangers for gorilla tracking.
Lunch, Dinner & Overnight at Kinigi Guest House or at Muhabura Hotel.
DAY 3: GISENYI – GOMA
Breakfast at the lodge. Drive to Gisenyi on the shores of Lake Kivu. Discover the other dormant volcanoes as the chain continues into the DRC (formerly Zaire). Lunch in Gisenyi. Afternoon tour of Gisenyi. Optional side trip to its twin city of Goma in the DRC formerly Zaire. Dinner and overnight at your hotel in Gisenyi.
DAY 4: LAKE KIVU – KIBUYE
Breakfast at the hotel. We take to the water by motor launch on Lake Kivu to Kibuye arriving in time for lunch at Kibuye Guest House. Afternoon at leisure. Dinner and ovenight at the Lodge.
DAY 5: ECO-CULTURAL – BUTARE
Breakfast at the Lodge. Drive to Butare via the historical route of Gitarama, Kagbayi, Ruhango and Nyanza. Lunch at Hotel Credo or Ibis, Butare. In the afternoon, we visit the National University, the Botanical Gardens, the craft shops and the Museum where you will be entertained by the Rwanda cultural drummers (tam-tam) and dancers “Intore”. Dinner & overnight at Hotel Credo or Ibis.
DAY 6: NYUNGWE FOREST - KIGALI
Early morning drive to Nyungwe (Rainforest) National Park with its 13 primate varieties, 275 bird species and other mammals. Picnic breakfast at “Uwinka” the ORTPN Station. Return to Butare for lunch on the way back to Kigali. Dinner and overnight at your Hotel in Kigali.
DAY 7
Breakfast at the hotel. Whole day at leisure for shopping and packing. Lunch, dinner & overnight at the hotel.
DAY 8
Transfer to the airport for departure flight
